NEW MATERIAL:A surface-active 9C alcohol ethoxylate having branched alkyl group and obtained by adding 3-15mol of ethylene oxide to a 9C alcohol having branched alkyl group and obtained by the oxo reaction of octene prepared by the dimerization of a 4C monoolefin. USE:A surface active agent having excellent antifoaming property and penetratability. When the compound is used in combination with a foaming surface active component having extremely excellent emulsifiability, detergency, dispersibility, etc., the foam can be extinguished without lowering the characteristics of the foaming surface active agent. Suitable for the preparation of agricultural spraying agent, emulsion paint, cosmetics, textile lubricant, etc. PREPARATION:A 4C fraction such as spent 4C fraction left after the extraction of butadiene, is dimerized (preferably by using a Ziegler catalyst) directly or after purification and controlled to a proper monoolefin concentration, and the dimer is converted to a 9C alcohol by the oxo reaction using a Co catalyst, etc. The objective alcohol ethoxylate can be prepared by adding ethylene oxide to the alcohol in the presence of an acid or alkali catalyst. |
