<p>The vertical transmission shaft (1) runs in a bearing (2). The bearing is bolted to a support flange (5) welded to a conical shell (6). This shell is, in turn, bolted to a second conical shell (8). The lower shell has two flanges at its lower end, both cast into the concrete structure. This ensures that the temperature of the support steelwork (10) (11) & (12) is always the same as that of the structure (5) and any effect of expansion is absorbed by the flexibility of the conical shells.</p> |
