PURPOSE:Two or more kinds of metal alkoxides or metal alkoxide and metal halide are irradiated with laser beams to effect hydrolysis to enable the production of very fine particles of high-purity metal double oxide by means of a small-scale equipment. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol which is liquid at the heated state of lower than about 100 deg.C such as methanol and a metal halide which is dissolved in the alcohol are irradiated with laser beams which have such a wavelength as being absorbed selectively by the metal halide to effect the reaction at a low temperature of about 100 deg.C to prepare metal alkoxide. Then, 2 or more kinds of metal alkoxides, or 1 or more kinds of metal alkoxide and a metal halide are irradiated with laser beams which are absorbed by either of metal alkoxides or halides in the presence of water, preferably as ultrasonic waves are applied to the reaction mixture to effect hydrolysis at about 100 deg.C, thus giving ultrafine particles of molecular sizes of high-purity metal double oxide.
