PURPOSE:Barium silicate glass having optical constant, good melting properties and improved acid resistance, containing oxides of Si, B, Al, Ba, Mg, Pb, Ti, As, Sb, etc. in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:A composition containing 41-55wt% SiO2, 2-10wt% B2O3, 2- 12wt% Al2O3, 15-40wt% Ba2O3, 2-20wt% total amounts of one or more of MgO, CaO, SrO, and ZnO, 0-9wt% PbO, 0-10wt% TiO2, 0-1wt% As2O3, and 0-5wt% Sb2O3 is prepared. Consequently, glass useful as optical glass, etc., having low tendency of devitrification, relatively good melting properties, and easy homogenizing is prepared.
