METHOD AND DEVICE FOR JOINING AND FORMING PLATE

PURPOSE:To perform simultaneously joining and forming of plate materials to be joined by holding said materials between press dies, deforming the one plate along the one press die by means of a gaseous pressure at a pescribed temp. and exerting the gaseous pressure only in the part to be joined from the other press die side. CONSTITUTION:Cavities 9 which provide a forming shape to a product are provided to a bottom die 1 for working, and gaseous pressure chambers 3 which apply a face pressure Pb for diffusion joining are provided to a top die 2. Diaphragms 4 at the base of said chambers are thinly constituted and sealing plugs 5 are welded to the top surface. A gas introducing port 6 is provided to the chambers. Plate materials 7, 8 to be worked are then placed between the dies 1 and 2 and are held under a prescribed pressing pressure P. While the plate materials are kept heated to a prescribed temp. at which superplastic working and diffusion joining are possible, a gaseous pressure Pf for forming and a pressure Pb for diffusion joining are introduced into the dies to form superplastically the lower plate 8 by the pressure Pf and to join diffusively the upper plate 7 to the lower plate 8 by the pressure Pb acted on the diaphragms 4. The joining and forming of the plate materials are thus simultaneously accomplished.
