PURPOSE:A low toxic insulating coating having excellent solubility and good painting workability at high concentrations and properties of cured films, prepared by dissolving a polyesterimide resin and a curing agent in a specified solvent. CONSTITUTION:A polyester-imide resin is obtained by reacting (A) an aliphatic dihydric alcohol with (B) a polyhydric (at least trihydric) alcohol, (C) an aromatic tribasic acid or a mixture of this acid with an aromatic dibasic acid, and (D) an aromatic polyamine so that the equivalent ratio of the hydroxyl groups to the carboxyl groups is 1.2-4.0/1, the hydroxyl groups in component B account for 20-80 equivalent % of the total hydroxyl groups, and the carboxyl groups which take part in the formation of the imide groups amount to 5-50 equivalent % of the total hydroxyl groups. This resin is dissolved in an acetophenone of the formula (wherein R is H or a 1-2C alkyl or alkoxy) or a mixture of it with other solvents. After the solution is cooled, a curing agent (e.g., tetrabutyl titanate) is added to the solution.
