PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of an information input part by normalizing input information which is detected by a pressure sensing element divided into plural parts and collating this information with data stored in a dictionary and selecting a category having the high degree of coincidence. CONSTITUTION:The pressure sensing element 13 divided into plural parts A-F is arranged under a pad 12 where a character is entered, and the variance of pen pressure due to the entry of the characters, patterns, or the like is inputted from each part of the element 13 to a feature quantity extracting part 11. Input changes from the parts A-F of the element are subjected to processings such as Fourier series expansion or the like and are normalized and are collated with data in a dictionary storage part 7 in a collating part 16, and a category having the highest degree of coincidence is selected and is stored in a storage part 4. Data stored in the storage part 4 is displayed on a display device 14 through a common bus 3 and is printed by a printer 15. Thus, the information input part is simplified to reduce the cost of the entire device.
