PURPOSE:To obtain the heat radiating member which is excellent in heat radiating property and heat resistant property and which is resistant against physical impacts by a method wherein a chromium compound is used to form the heat radiating member. CONSTITUTION:A heat radiating member comprises a base provided on its surface with a chromium oxide layer which is produced as a result of conversion of the chromium compound by heating. To obtain the heat radiating member, a heat radiating material as the base having a predetermined configuration is dipped into a reacting liquid consisting mainly of the chromium compound and then the material is heated to make a layer containing chromium oxide. Thus it is possible to obtain a desired surface condition for the heat radiating member by repeating the above processing cycle several times. In this case, it is effective to apply a surface treatment on the base heat radiating material before it is dipped into the reacting liquid, for example, metal plating, flame spraying, or the like. |
