The invention relates to a non-linear resistor or varistor produced by screen printing on an insulating substrate. The non-linear resistor according to the invention includes, deposited on an insulating substrate 7 provided with a first electrode 8, at least two screen-printed layers 17, 18 of a resistive paste. At least one floating electrode 20 is deposited by screen-printing at the interface between the two resistive layers 17, 18. The second electrode 3 is a thin-layer gold electrode obtained through a thick-layer screen printing of an organometallic paste, stoved at 490 DEG C. The method of manufacturing the varistor uses screen printing both for the resistant thick layers 17, 18 and for the thin layers of the electrodes 3, 20. Application to liquid-crystal, electroluminescent or electrophoretic viewing screens and display panels. <IMAGE>
