For an optimum ride comfort, the damper adjustment of a vehicle should adapt to the prevailing conditions. An individually adjustable damper characteristic curve, however, may impair the driving safety of the vehicle considerably if incorrectly set. The aim of this invention therefore is to use the vehicle speed as a control variable for automatic adjustment of the damper characteristic curve. In this, different control characteristics - such as for sports use or comfort - can still be manually selected. By means of the invention, optimum chassis tuning can be achieved with the same vehicle in many driving conditions.
