Bicycle hub with two blocks (17, 20) which can be displaced separately in an axial direction. The small right-hand block (17) has the two positions I, II and a two-stage planetary gear P2. The large left-hand block (20) has the three positions or groups H, M, L and a three-stage planetary gear P3 with free wheels FM and FHL with catches (23, 24). In this way, 6 speeds are obtained. The large planetary gear P3 produces at L a large transformation ratio, at H it operates as a branch. Therefore, there are large increments S between the speeds at the bottom but small ones at the top. In the central group M, the more rapid rotation of the large sun wheel (56) at position II brings about an overall step-down transformation i. Therefore, the sequence I/II is reversed at M. As a result, the double change which is otherwise necessary with other group gears is dispensed with. Therefore, when changing gear either the small block (17) is moved exclusively for 1/2 = I/II, 3/4 = II/I and 5/6 = I/II; or for 2/3 = L/M and 4/5 = M/H, the large block (20) is moved exclusively. In the case of the axial movement of the latter (20), the latches (23, 24) of the two free wheels FM and FHL are simultaneously changed. The large annular wheel (21) of P3 drives the hub sheath (7) of the rear wheel via the one free wheel FM in group M whilst, however, in group H or L the large planetary carrier (22) of P3 drives the hub sheath (7) via the other free wheel FHL.
