The invention relates to an electric washing machine having a device for the automatic control of its fresh-water inflow. Provision is made, in this, for previously determining the float height for the washing liquor in dependence on the weight load on the washing drum or tub by the dry laundry introduced. This weight parameter can be supplemented by the manual input of further parameters, such as the type of fabric and the degree of soiling. The various parameters are converted into, among another other things, a corresponding float height by means of a microcomputer. The float height of the washing liquor itself is, in turn, also determined by the weight of the tub. There is provided between the housing and the tub a weight-sensor device which determines electrically the respective weight load both with the dry laundry introduced and with fresh water flowing in.
