The mechanism, which is constructed with the aid of intermittently acting members, serves for infinitely variable speed or torque conversion of driving motors connected to its input side and, due to a special series connection of precisely matched pendular members, freewheel switches and a differential gear, guarantees exact synchronism of the output shaft irrespective of the transmission ratio setting. In this arrangement, the input shaft (1) drives two pendular systems (2, 3), which are of identical construction but operate with a 90 DEG phase shift relative to one another and comprise pendular members engaging positively in one another. Each of the two pendular systems converts the uniform rotary motion of the input shaft into in each case two pendular motions which are phase-shifted by 180 DEG relative to one another and obey a speed-time law having characteristic properties. The travel of the pendular systems can be adjusted synchronously and in an infinitely variable manner relative to one another. The travel adjustment (4) is constructed in such a way that the characteristic properties of the pendular motions are maintained. Each pendular system drives a pair of freewheel switches (5, 6 and 7, 8) which are arranged on a common intermediate shaft. The two coaxial intermediate shafts (9, 10) are connected to a bevel-gear differential (11), the planet carrier (12) of which is coupled rotationally to the output shaft (13). <IMAGE>
