A fire warning device for fire-resistant storage of vegetable products, in particular hay, comprises an electric alarm device, which can be arranged on or in a building, with sensors which trigger a warning signal in the alarm device in the event of a set threshold value being exceeded. The sensors are preferably contact thermometers and/or methane gas detectors which are arranged in the region of one end of a long hollow measuring lance and project into the interior of the measuring lance. The measuring lance has at its other end a tip with passage openings. If the measuring lance is put into stored vegetable products which are to be monitored, gases to be investigated flow through the measuring lance and, in early recognition of a fire, produce severe and less severe reliable alarm signals in the alarm device.
