Devices for heat transfer which have a multiplicity of heat transfer tubes assembled to form bundles are then subject, in particular, to the risk of clogging due to contaminants when impure waste gases flow through them. The risk is increased when the dirt sticks in the tubes owing to undershooting of the dew point. It is now possible by means of the invention to apply a cleaning fluid 11 partially to the heat transfer tubes 3 without having to take the entire device 2 out of service. Arranged for this purpose above the upper tube plate 5 is a scavenging chamber 12 which can be displaced at intervals or cyclically over 360 DEG , successively supplies the heat transfer tubes 3, which are situated therebelow in each case, with cleaning fluid 11, and partitions off the remaining heat transfer tubes 3. A collecting chamber 33 can be integrated in the collecting funnel 27 in order to collect the cleaning fluid 11. Said chamber can be pressed sealingly against the lower tube plate 6 and can be moved in synchronism with the scavenging chamber 12. <IMAGE>
