The vehicle roof load carrier (5) is fitted by fixing elements to fixed roof rails (3). The fixing elements are in the form of clips (13) which fit into the carrier bars by means of holding shoulders (17) and are locked in place by a screw (23). A closing shell (16) is fitted to each end of the load carrier to ensure that the fixing element cannot slide out of place. The load carrier (5) cannot be removed from the railing (3) until the closing shell (26) is removed. The shell is provided with a lock device (27) to hold it in place.
