The planting machine is provided for inserting plants into the ground. It is designed especially as a vine-planting machine and has an undercarriage, a ploughshare, a cable drum with an oil motor and a driving disk with an oil drive motor. Furthermore, a driving cable for a plant-setting device is provided. The inserted plants are fixed in the ground by press-down wheels. A feed device is arranged above an upper strand of a conveyor chain of the plant-setting device. At least one self-closing pick-up device for the plants is located on the conveyor chain. In the region between the feed device and the conveyor chain there is an opening device which controls the pick-up device on the conveyor chain for the transfer of the inserted plant.
