For an externally-energised DC motor (10), having a field-current controller or a field-current adjuster (22) for controlling or regulating the speed or torque, a circuit arrangement is specified which counteracts the armature reaction on the energising field. A control variable or regulating variable (26), which is dependent on the magnitude of the armature current, is added to the reference variable (21) of the field-current controller or field-current adjuster (22), in such a manner that the desired field-current value is increased at large armature currents. A proportional element (24) and a threshold-value element (25) can be connected in series, as transmission elements, between the armature-current measuring point (23) and the input of the field-current controller or field-current adjuster (22). Non-linear, time-dependent elements may also be used as transmission elements, in order to take into account the non-linear armature reaction. <IMAGE>
