In order that such a device requires no special zero compensation and hence also no increased circuit cost, all the resistor elements (7, 8, 9, 10) of a bridge circuit (5) have the same resistance magnitude. A resistor element (10) spans over the range (14) of the expected level fluctuations. The remaining resistor elements (7, 8, 9) are arranged in a region (12) which is completely filled by fluid (3). The voltage which is indicated on a measuring instrument (15) is then a direct measure for the filling height. <IMAGE>
