The invention relates to the use of dihalocyclopropyl aldehydes and dihalocyclopropyl acetals, some of which are known, of the general formula (I) <IMAGE> in which Hal<1> and Hal<2> independently of one another represent halogen, R<1> represents hydrogen or alkyl, R<2> represents hydrogen, alkyl or optionally substituted aryl and R<3> represents the CHO group or the <IMAGE> group, where X represents oxygen or sulphur and R<4> and R<5> represent alkyl or a radical -(CH2-CH2-O-)n-R<6> where R<6> represents alkyl and n represents a number from 1 to 3 or R<4> and R<5> together represent a divalent alkylene radical, as fungicides.
