Process and device for producing thin-walled dish-shaped plastics articles having reinforcing inserts embedded in the article walls

Firstly, cut glass fibre mats are laid in an open mould with edges projecting over the mould, and a plastic of flowable or pourable consistency consisting of at least two components reacting together to form a foam is introduced into the mould, after which the mould is closed. As a result of the foam-forming reaction of these components the plastics foam being formed fills the mould cavity during the foaming process, embedding the glass fibre mats. The plastics components are metered into the mould in such an excess quantity that the pores of the plastics foam being formed are compressed as a result of the pressures resulting from the generation of gas in the reaction until they almost completely disappear. The degree of compression of the foam pores can be controlled by creating defined escape paths for the reaction gas. The escape of the gases expediently takes place with throttling through an edge of the inserted glass fibre mats trapped between the mould parts.
