In order to be able to convert existing built-in light fittings to built-on lighting fittings, in which it is also possible to install lamps of relatively large dimensions, the built-in light fitting is provided with an extension piece which can be adjusted in length and is screwed into the lamp holder. The base plate, which is mounted on this extension piece, in particular indirectly above the ballast, can be constructed as a light reflector, and it is possible to fasten a lamp cover thereto. A fluorescent lamp can be connected to the ballast.
