It is the object of the invention to develop a device by means of which the test head of an ultrasonic device can be applied inside metallic hollow bodies at measuring sites which are difficult of access by using two methods (toggle lever method and permanent magnet method) in such a way that the measurement of the thickness of the residual wall and testing of welds can be carried out without the expenditure of high costs. This holds, in particular, for measurements in curved metallic hollow bodies whose measurement sites can be reached only by means of a bendable arm. The contact pressure on the ultrasonic test head that is required for the measurement is achieved using the toggle lever method or permanent magnet method. <IMAGE>
