PURPOSE:To decrease the widthwise dimension of a machine tool with a multi spindle head exchanger and to reduce the time required for exchanger of multi spindle heads by providing a head magazine for receiving the multi spindle heads and a rotary arm disposed above a head carrier. CONSTITUTION:For actuation of the apparatus, the main shaft of a multi spindle head 1 is rotated, and at the same time, a feed unit 6 is driven for forward movement by a servomotor 8 so as to machine a workpiece in a fixture 9. At this same time, a multi spindle head 2 in the waiting position is transferred by an auxiliary exchanger 17 to a magazine storing/electing position C. Then, a head magazine 18 is rotated to place a new multi spindle head 3 to the position C and further on a rotary arm 12. Then, the rotary arm 12 is rotated to exchange the multi spindle heads 1 and 3. This results in decrease of the widthwide dimension and reduction of the time required for exchange of multi spindle heads. |
