PURPOSE:A thermoplastic resin is mixed with an inorganic salt to be leached out and a metallic powder as a leaching assistant, then formed and dipped in an inorganic acid according to the barrel method to leach out the substrate to be extracted and the assistant, thus effecting high-efficiency production of porous bodies with uniform and continuous fine pores. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic resin such as polyolefin is mixed with an acid- or water-soluble inorganic salt as a substrate to be leached off such as calcium carbonate and a metallic powder as a leaching assistant such as an aluminum powder in the presence or absence of a solvent which can dissolve or swell the resin and the resultant composition is formed with heat and pressure. The formed products are subjected to sandblasting to remove flashes and skins. Then, the resultant products are dipped in an inorganic acid such as hydrochloric, sulfuric or nitric acid or their mixture as a leaching agent according to the barrel method to leach off the substrate and the assistant. The resultant porous material is abrased, while it is still wetted, to give the objective porous substance.
