PURPOSE:To reduce noise during the pile driving period by a method in which a striker on the tip of a piston is inserted into a recession formed in a cap, and the bottom of the recession is struck by the striker through a part having a elastic modulus smaller than that of the material of the cap. CONSTITUTION:When compressed air is sent into an inlet 18, the air coming into the lower operating chamber 13 enters the upper operating chamber 15 through paths 16 and 17, a piston 9 is lowered, and the bottom 5a of the recession 5 of a cap 2 is struck by a striker 19 through a different part 22, e.g., copper, etc., having a smaller elastic modulus to drive a steel tubular pile 1. Since the striking point is positioned in the inside of the cap 2 and impaction during the striking period is absorbed by the different part 22 of copper, etc., having a smaller elastic modulus than that of stell as the mother material of the cap 2, noise during the pile driving period can be reduced.
