<p>PURPOSE:To look up a word to be checked in a dictionary speedily through simple operation by displaying a text on a display device in sentences and selecting the word to be checked with a light pen. CONSTITUTION:A character segmenting device 1 detects pauses before and after a characters selected with the light pen in a character string in a document text displayed on the screen of the display device 6, and segments the character strings between the pauses. Then, this character string between the pauses is divided into words by referring to a word dictionary 3 and th word including the character selected with the light pen is extracted by a word dividing device 2. The word extracted by the dividing device 2 is accessed by a translation dictionary 5 and the translation data is sent to the display device 6 by a dictionary looking-up device 4.</p> |
