In a method to reduce the acidity of acidified water a stream of the bulk water is passed through a well-defined bed of a solid, particle-shaped acidity-reducing material, such as limestone, in such as way and with such a speed that a considerable motion is imparted to the particles by the flow so that they abrade against each other thereby attaining a much smaller size.
