NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I (R is aryl; R' is aromatic group; n is 0 or 1). EXAMPLE:1-Methylthio-1-(p-tolylsulfonyl)-2-phenylethylene. USE:Useful as an intermediate important in organic synthetic chemistry, a raw material for preparing drugs, agricultural chemicals, etc. or an intermediate for synthesizing them. PREPARATION:An aromatic aldehyde shown by the formula R'CHO is reacted with a methylthiomethylarylsulfone shown by the formula II in a solvent such as ether, benzene, etc. in the presence of a base (e.g., potassium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, etc.) at -20-150 deg.C, and, if necessary, it is oxidized, to give a compound shown by the formula I .
