NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I (R is aryl; R' is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl-substituted alkyl, or alkoxycarbonyl-substituted alkyl). EXAMPLE:1-Methylthio-1-(p-tolylsulfonyl)tridecane. USE:A raw material for preparing drugs, agricultural chemicals, or an intermediate for synthesizing them. PREPARATION:A methylthiomethylarylsulfone shown by the formula II is reacted with an alkyl derivative shown by the formula R'X(X is halogen, or sulfonato) in the presence of a base (e.g., sodium hydride, n-butyl lithium, sodium hydroxide, etc.) in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran, toluene, etc. at -20-100 deg.C, to give a compound shown by the formula I .
