PURPOSE:To prepare acetonylsuccinic acid ester useful as an intermediate of agricultural chemicals or pharmaceuticals, in high yield with one step, by reacting 1,2-ethylenedicarboxylic acid ester with acetone in the presence of dialkylamine. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II (R is alkyl) can be prepared in high yield by reacting the 1,2-ethylenedicarboxylic acid ester of formula I with acetone in the presence of a dialkylamine preferably at 140-180 deg.C. The process has various industrial advantages compared with conventional process, e.g. easy reaction operation, economical production of the product, etc. |
