PURPOSE:To provide an electrode having excellent selectivity only to a specified ion among alkali metals and alkaline earth metals by substituting a bicyclic cryptand with a group making the cryptand oily, and using the product as a sensitive substance of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:The electrode contains a bicyclic cryptand represented by the formula as a sensitive substance. The bicyclic cryptand is a bicyclic compd. which has two nitrogens as bridge heads and is obtained by crosslinking between N-N of a monocyclic cryptand with ether. The (m) and (n) in the formula represent 0.1 and 2, and at least one of the hydrogen atoms bonded to the skeleton carbon atoms in the formula is substituted by a group which is enough to make the compd. oily. As alkyl group having 4-10 carbon atoms such as a decyl group and an aryl group, or such as a phenyl group, a benzyl group and a cyclohexyl group can be used. The electrode, for example, is constituted by bending the end of a metallic wire 1, covering the wire with a polyvinyl chloride tube 2, and forming a sensitive membrane 3 at the end of the metallic wire 1.
