PURPOSE:A carcinostatic agent that contains, as an active ingredient, pinowiltin, which is obtained advantageously from a new microorganism in Ceratocystis, thus showing high carcinostatic activity with remarkably low toxicity. CONSTITUTION:The objective carcinostatic agent contains the compound of the formula. The compound has been known to have antiviral, antiprotozoal activities, but the present inventors have found that it has additionally carcinostatic activity. The compound of the formula can be obtained advantageously from a new Ceratosystis densiflora nov. sp. (FERM-6365). The agent can be administered orally or parenterally and prepared into drugs in customary manners. The dose in oral administration is 0.01-100mg/dk/day and the upper limit is preferably 10mg/kg. In case of parenteral administration, the upper limit is preferably 2mg/kg. Since it is low in toxicity and high in carcinostatic activity, the compound shows remarkable effect in treatment of cancers. |
