NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [R1 is 1-6C acyl, lower alkylsulfonyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkylaminocarbonyl (substituted) lower alkyl, etc.; R2 is lower alkyl; R3 is lower alkyl or lower alkenyl] and its metallic salt. EXAMPLE:2-[ 1-( Ethoxyimino )propyl ]-3-hydroxy-5-[ 4-(methanesulfonyloxy)- phenyl]-2-cyclohexen-1-one. USE:A selective herbicide exhibiting excellent effect especially by the foliar treatment compared with known compounds. PREPARATION:The compound of fomrula I can be prepared by reacting the compound of formula II with a hydroxylamine derivative of formula R3ONH2 in an inert solvent such as alcohol, optionally substituting the reaction solvent with other solvent after the reaction, extracting the reaction mixture with an alkali, acidifying the alkaline layer with hydrochloric acid, and separating the precipitated crystal of the objective compound.
