A brush holder for electrical commutator machines has a moulding (10) consisting of insulating material and having two guide supports (12) for brushes (13) which are supported therein such that they can be displaced. At least one of the brushes is connected to an electrical lead strip (17) which, on the other hand, is connected to a cable shoe (18) or the like by means of a weld (20). The strip (17) is passed through a guide slot (22). In order to prevent transmission of the shaking and vibration of the brushes (13) to the welded connection (20), which represents a region which is sensitive to fracture, formed inside the slot (22) is a support by means of which particularly the part of the strip (17) which is located close to the cable shoe (18) is supported. The device is provided in particular for starter motors in motor vehicles.
