ORNAMENTAL ARTICLE AND ITS SURFACE TREATMENT

PURPOSE:To produce an ornamental article having excellent resistance to wear and corrosion at a low cost by subjecting a base ornamental material to pretreatment for Ni plating then ion-plating a vapor deposition material on the surface thereof and forming the thin film of the vapor deposition material. CONSTITUTION:A base ornamental material of a brass, cast alloy of tin and lead, etc. permitting easy formation of a fine texture pattern is cleaned and is thereafter subjected to Ni plating by which a thin film layer of Ni is formed thereon. Ti or Cr or the like as a vapor deposition material is ion-plated on the surface of the base material subjected to the plating to form the thin layer of such vapor deposition material, by which the ornamental article having excellent resistance to wear and corrosion and permitting production at a low cost is obtd. It is possible to produce ornamental articles having various hues by adjusting the concn. of the atmosphere gas for ion plating in the above-mentioned method.
