The invention relates to a fuel briquette having a substantially prismatic or cylindrical briquette body of crumpled and/or comminuted and compacted waste paper, in which, in accordance with the invention, the briquette body is surrounded by a wrapping material in sheet or web form. The method of the invention for the production of a fuel briquette, having a substantially prismatic and preferably parallepiped briquette body, by crumpling and/or comminuting waste paper, introducing the waste paper into a press box of a briquette press, and compacting the waste paper to form the briquette body is characterized in that, before pressing the waste paper into the press box, a wrapping material in sheet or web form is inserted, whereupon the crumpled and/or comminuted waste paper is fed onto the wrapping material in the press box, the wrapping material is closed over the waste paper, and the compacting process is commenced. <IMAGE>
