In a machine for packaging and unpackaging bottles or similar articles, an exact sequence of movement of the gripper head between the box conveyor system and the bottle conveyor system is to be ensured by simple means, whereby a trouble-free and virtually oscillation-free mounting of such a gripper head is to be guaranteed in all movement sections of the path to be travelled. To this end it is proposed to movably mount the guide carriage (6) on a horizontal guide (7), to make this guide be held against a vertical guide (8) so as to permit vertical reciprocation and to make the coupling end (11) of a coupled gear (13) known per se engage on the guide carriage, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. <IMAGE>
