A mitre box, which comprises an elongated basic body (1) with a stop device (4) for bearing against a workpiece (11) and comprising a saw blade guide (2) which is rotationally adjustable about a longitudinal end of the base body, is to be suitable for use not only for mitre cutting but also for other cutting work, such as for example longitudinal slitting of a board or a panel and be suitable for right-handed and left-handed people. For this purpose, the invention provides that the stop device can be shifted through 90 DEG on the basic body in a plane perpendicular to the cutting plane, that the basic body is a profiled rail and that the stop device comprises a sliding piece (7) which is provided with two crossing, continuous receiving channels (5,6) for the basic body rail (1) and is provided on its underside with a stop flange (8). <IMAGE>
