PURPOSE:To make the automatic adjustment of azimuth angle possible by using a head having two auxiliary head gaps to detect the difference in output between auxiliary head gaps and controlling an electromechanical conversion element in accordance with this output difference. CONSTITUTION:Auxiliary head gaps G1 and G2 are placed at angles theta1 and theta2 (¦theta1=theta2¦) to a main head gap G3, and the gap G3, is provided at right angles to the lengthwise direction of a magnetic tape 4. When a magnetic head 14 reproduces a part of a pattern PB, the extension of the gap G3 is placed in a position A and the output of the gap G3 is reduced because the magnetic head 14 is held in the state indicated by a solid line. Because of the deviation of azimuth angle, the output of the gap G1 is increased, and the output of the gap G2 is reduced furthermore. As the result, a positive-direction output S4 is transmitted from a detecting circuit 44, and a driving circuit 45 applies a control voltage of such direction that a thickness (t) of a piezoelectric element 11 is reduced, and the head 14 is adjusted to the position B where it coincides with the pattern PB of the gap G3. |
