The device comprises a pump impeller (5) arranged in a pump housing (7). An intake opening (23) is provided in a housing end wall (11) axially symmetrical to a pump drive shaft (3) and in addition a radial outlet (25) on the high pressure side of the pump. By way of the outlet (25), the liquid to be pumped is, depending on the operating conditions, discharged into the surroundings by way of the outlet (25) and circulated or pumped up above the liquid level by way of a connected riser pipe. In order to be able also to achieve an optimum air input into the liquid using this device, the pump impeller blades (17) axially symmetrical to the pump drive shaft (3) have a conical recess (27) running together and pointing inwards from the intake opening (23), an inwards pointing housing projection (33) with an air feed opening (35) also being left in a partial area of the circumference of the central intake opening (23), in which an air intake pipe (37) opens (Fig.2). <IMAGE>
