A circuit arrangement with a computer is built into an electric compass saw, and various data or information on the type of material of a workpiece, the thickness of the workpiece, the desired quality of the cut surface and the cut path can be entered manually in the computer by means of a keypad in such a way that the computer chooses optimum operating conditions and determines the type of saw blade to be used, the locus curve of the saw blade, the number of strokes of the saw blade per minute, proportional to the motor speed, and the necessity for cooling oil to be used. The circuit arrangement has, furthermore, a circuit construction which automatically controls the speed of the motor of the compass saw in such a way that the actual speed of the saw blade is equal to a desired speed represented by the number of strokes per minute. Connected to the computer is a display unit for displaying the input and output data of the computer, which unit supplies the user of the compass saw with visual information.
