PURPOSE:To perform the work of opening, closing or holding a door with an extremely simplified mechanism, in automatically coating the outer and inner plates of a car body with a robot, by changing the inclination of said body. CONSTITUTION:In an automatic coating line for a body, the body 1a is inclined backwards with respect to a horizontal plane, and its outer plate is correctively coated by a robot 3a. After said coating is finished, the body 1a is conveyed to the working block of another robot 3b. Hereon, the body 1b is inclined frontwards with respect to the horizontal plane H-H, so that a door 4 is opened by its own weight. The inner plate of the body is correctively coated by the robot under the condition that said body is held at an opened end position determined by constitution of the body. Thereafter, the body 1c is inclined backwards with respect to the horizontal plane H-H, and main coating to its outer plate is performed with vertical and horizontal applicators 5, 6 under closed condition of the door.
