In the top part (1) of a press (12), all the drive elements belonging to the drive of the ram (2), motor (29), disc flywheel (14), crank wheels (10, 11), connecting rod (9) and consequently their bearing means, are inclined, and the central axes (23) extend at an angle (24) to one of the press axes (27, 28) which results from the spacing of the ram articulation points (5) and the spacing of the central axes (31) of the connecting rod (9) to one another. As a result, a reduction of the top part width and an offsetless engagement of the pressure bars (3) on ram articulation points (5) lying opposite one another in the longitudinal extent is achieved. <IMAGE>
