The method according to the invention consists in that a type of combination, corresponding to normal operation, of parameter increases at the outputs of an object and of a controller and the case of a zero increase in at least one of the parameters are defined, any parameter increases at the outputs of the object (2) and of the controller (3) are measured, signs of these increases and the presence of the zero increase in at least one of the parameters are determined, types of combinations of the signs and of the zero increases are compared with one another which correspond to normal and to current operation, and in the event of a disturbance of the said correspondence between the said combinations, a switch-off signal for the object (2) is generated. The arrangement for carrying out the method described contains a controller (3) which is connected to a protection device (6) which includes at least two units (7, 8) for determining increases of the input and output parameter which are connected to a synchronising unit (9) and to a logic element (10) which is constructed to be reprogrammable and contains a series arrangement of a reloadable permanent memory (12), a control circuit (11) for recording and reading and a comparison circuit (13) whereas the units (7, 8) have at least two outputs each. <IMAGE>
