The silencer housing (1) is divided by partition walls (2 to 4) into four chambers (5 to 8) arranged one behind the other. The inlet pipes (9, 10) open via openings (12, 13) into two inlet chambers (7, 8) adjoining one end of the housing. The outlet pipes (14, 15) are connected to a central chamber (6) which, for its part, is connected via connecting pipes (19, 24) to the inlet chambers (7, 8) and to the chamber (5) arranged at the other end of the housing.
