PURPOSE:To change over a ribbon at an arbitrary position in a serial direction, by providing a calculating means for changing over a track of a color to a track of another color, and an electrical controlling means for driving a ribbon changing-over mechanism in accordance with the calculation result. CONSTITUTION:A pivot 12 supports a ribbon cassette 13 so that the cassette 13 can be moved in vertical direction with respect to a printing head 14. A stepping motor 5 is rotated, and the cassette 13 is moved in the vertical direction with respect to the head 14. When a signal for changing over the ribbon color is received, a change-over signal discriminating circuit 23 discriminates the color of the ribbon, and a ribbon change-over quantity calculating circuit 24 calculates a movement quantity to be designated to a stepping motor controlling circuit 22. The calculation result is converted into a number of pulses by the controlling circuit 22, the motor 5 is driven, and the ribbon of the desired color is positioned at the head 14. |
