PURPOSE:To perform KANA (Japanese syllabary)-KANJI (Chinese character) conversion with good operability by displaying a KANJI word corresponding to a KANA character string which is different partially from an input KANA character string together with the corresponding KANA character string when the KANJI word corresponding to the input KANA character string is not found in a dictionary. CONSTITUTION:Data on the input KANA character string inputted on a keyboard 5 is written in an RAM14 and the decision on whether the start of KANA-KANJI conversion is indicated or not is made. When the start of conversion is not indicated, idiomatic character processing is performed for various code inputs. On the other hand, when the indication is made, the KANJI word which is registered firstly in the directionary stored in an FF16 among KANJI words starting with the same KANA character as the 1st KANA character in the input KANA character string is detected. When the KANA characters of the firstly registered KANJI word coincide with the input KANA character string completely in terms of reading, the character processing of normal KANA-KANJI conversion is performed.
