NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1>-R<4> are H or alkoxycarbonyl). EXAMPLE:Ethanediylidene-2,2'-bis(1,3-diselenol). USE:Useful as an electrically conductive organic material. It has strong electron- donative property. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by the Wittig reaction of the phosphonium salt of formula II with the aldehyde of formula III in the presence of a base comprising triethylamine or butyl lithium. Another compound of formula I wherein R<1>-R<4> are H is obtained by preparing a bis(1,3- diselenol) having alkylcarbonyl group according to the reaction formula IV (R' is alkyl), and heating the product in a solvent such as hexamethyl phosphoramide, etc. in the presence of lithium bromide, etc.
