<p>This invention relates to a cricket ball, hockey ball or the like of the kind which comprises a pair of hemi- spherical cups 10,11 which enclose a core 12, each cup having at least one row of stitches 13 which extend around its periphery adjacent to the edge of the cup and which project outwardly therefrom, the stitches of the two cups being arranged to form a seam when the ball is completed. The method of manufacturing such a ball comprises providing at least one strip 14 of synthetic resin material which is wrapped round the core 12 to form a band which will lie beneath the seam 13. The ball is assembled by applying adhesive to the inter-engaging surfaces of the core and the cups and then softening said strip 14 and applying pressure to the assembly to effect adhesion of the core to the two cups, the softening of the strip 14 enabling the synthetic resin material to flow on to the adjacent part of the interior of the cups and into and between the stitches thereby providing further bonding between the core 12 and cups 10, 11.
